Discovery Corner's Fall Is Filling In: Soup Wednesdays, a Museum Pop-Up, and a Market Due by Thanksgiving

October 15, 2026

Discovery Corner sits where Skyline Ranch Road meets NW Ochoa Drive, at the official address 1125 NW Ochoa Dr. Discovery West has always described it as the spot for meeting friends, taking a break after a ride on Phil's Trail, or having a family picnic. That description fits a summer Saturday. The October and November calendar looks different. Most of what's scheduled at the plaza now falls on weekdays, and before Thanksgiving a nonprofit grocer plans to add the one piece the corner has been missing, a weekly source of local meat and produce.

The week at Discovery Corner, as of early October

The busiest days on the plaza calendar right now are Tuesday and Wednesday, not the weekend. Here's how the regular schedule lines up across the businesses and pop-ups operating this month.

Day What's on Where
Tuesday mornings Toddler Time, 9 to 11 a.m., ages 0 to 4, run by the Children's Museum of Central Oregon 1123 NW Ochoa Dr., Suite 100
Tuesday evenings Uncorked Tuesday live music, 6 to 8 p.m., on scheduled dates Put A Cork In It, 1127 NW Ochoa Dr.
Wednesday Soup Wednesday, 4 to 8 p.m., soup by Central Oregon Soup Co. Put A Cork In It
Mid-week and weekends in October Early Release Day Play, Homeschool Hours, Kids Night Out, Sunday Funday Children's Museum pop-up, Suite 100
Most days, Tuesdays to confirm Wine bar and bottle shop Put A Cork In It
Ongoing Pastries, coffee, packaged goods and pantry staples Sparrow Mercado, 1115 NW Ochoa Dr.

Soup Wednesday is the only item on that list that runs every week. Put A Cork In It's events page lists it as a weekly event, every Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m., with soup made by Central Oregon Soup Co. The wine bar's Discovery West directory profile shows hours of 4 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, 2 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday. The bar's own homepage, though, says it's currently closed on Tuesdays. The most recent Uncorked Tuesday, featuring So Much Closer, was a Tuesday-evening show on October 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. No later Uncorked dates had been posted as of this week. If you're planning a Tuesday visit, check the bar's events page first.

Sparrow Mercado, at 1115 NW Ochoa Dr., Suite 100, describes itself as a neighborhood market built around Sparrow Bakery, with Ocean Rolls, coffee, fresh bread, packaged Sparrow goods and pantry staples for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Its listing doesn't mention fresh meat or produce, and that's the gap Locavore plans to fill. The plaza's other storefronts are appointment-based, so they don't drive foot traffic the same way. They include Form Pilates at 1216 NW Skyline Ranch Road, Anna Salon at 1119 NW Ochoa Drive and Bluebird Skin Therapy + Aesthetics at 1208 NW Skyline Ranch Road.

A museum that's here for one month only

The Children's Museum of Central Oregon has taken Suite 100 at 1123 NW Ochoa Dr. for October only. It's bringing hands-on STEAM activities into an indoor space at the plaza. Toddler Time runs Tuesday mornings for kids up to age 4. It costs $10 per child, children under 1 are free, and a caregiver has to stay. Tickets are sold through the museum's website.

Here's what's left on the pop-up schedule from today, October 7:

  • October 7: Early Release Day Play
  • October 8: Homeschool Hours
  • October 10: Kids Night Out
  • October 11: Sunday Funday
  • October 20: Toddler Time
  • October 21: Early Release Day Play
  • October 22: Homeschool Hours
  • October 24: Kids Night Out

The sessions are built around school-calendar gaps like early release days and homeschool mornings. That puts plaza programming on weekday afternoons, a slot that Discovery Corner's old picnic-and-trailhead description doesn't cover.

The missing piece is fresh meat and produce

All of this explains why Locavore's arrival matters more than a typical new tenant would. Central Oregon Locavore is a Bend nonprofit grocer. It's building a second store, Locavore at Discovery West, in Discovery West Plaza. The Source Weekly reported in July that the store will be a 600-square-foot neighborhood market carrying many of the same producers as the flagship on NE 3rd Street. In that announcement, which The Source says came from submitted information it hadn't independently verified, Locavore described the westside corridor as having no year-round source of local meat, produce and pantry staples.

Locavore says the new store won't try to match the full NE 3rd Street lineup. In a September interview posted by Discovery West, the organization said the store will focus on "produce, protein, and pantry." In the same interview, Locavore described the store's purpose this way:

"We want shopping local to feel like a normal part of the week, not an extra errand."

That quote is the clearest statement of what's changing at the plaza. Soup Wednesday and Toddler Time give people a reason to come by on a weekday. A market gives them a reason to come by every week.

What will be on the shelves

Locavore says its producers grow and raise food within about 200 miles of Bend when possible. For meat and eggs, it looks for pasture-based husbandry, humane handling and traceability back to the ranch. For produce, it looks for organic or organically aligned growing practices, including at small farms that farm that way without formal certification. The Discovery West directory says the store will draw from more than 185 regional farmers, ranchers and makers.

Locavore sells on consignment and returns 65 cents of every dollar to producers. That's about what farmers earn at a farmers market, but they don't pay booth fees or lose time off the farm. According to the July announcement, the nonprofit paid local producers more than $1.4 million in 2025 and more than $8.7 million since it started tracking sales in 2014. It expects the Discovery West store to raise annual producer sales by 25 to 30 percent and projects more than 315 shoppers a week in its first year.

Some details aren't settled yet. When asked whether shoppers could pick up CSA boxes, farm shares or preorders at the new store, Locavore said it's still deciding which services the location will offer and will share pickup details closer to opening.

When it's expected to open

The opening date is a target, not a promise. Discovery West's September 25 update says Locavore expects to open by Thanksgiving, which is November 26 this year. The October 1 directory listing says construction is underway, with opening planned for late fall 2026. It also says Locavore is trying to close a final $100,000 funding gap caused by rising construction costs. Updates and donation details are on Locavore's Discovery West project page.

The holiday stretch, on one calendar

Between now and the end of November, the plaza's dated events build toward the market opening:

  1. Monday, October 26, 4 to 8 p.m.: Meet Your Wine Match, a white-wine tasting at Put A Cork In It with Curious Vine Collective.
  2. Saturday, October 31, 4 to 6 p.m.: Fright Night at Discovery Corner, with food from the SharkMouth Fajitas cart, Sparkle Strands hair tinsel, Scary-oke, a costume parade at 5 p.m. and free treat bags while supplies last.
  3. November 20 and 21: Dominio IV wine tastings at Put A Cork In It. The listed start time on November 20 differs between sources, so check the bar's page before going.
  4. Week of Thanksgiving: Locavore West's target opening.
  5. Monday, November 30, 4 to 8 p.m.: Meet Your Wine Match, the red-wine tasting.

SharkMouth is a food cart that posts where it's popping up next on Instagram. It isn't listed in the plaza's business directory.

What's past November

The next big addition to Discovery West won't be at the corner. Skyliner Club, a fitness and wellness facility with a pool, sports facilities, a café and a community park lined with food trucks, is under construction next to Skylark Children's Academy. Discovery West's March 2026 announcement targets a summer 2027 opening. That replaces the spring 2026 date in The Bulletin's 2024 report, which called the project Skyliner Sports Club.

So for this winter, the plaza is what you see on the calendar above: a wine bar with a weekly soup night, a bakery-café, a children's museum through October 24, and a small grocery that's expected to open by the end of November.

At The Nolte Group, we follow openings like Locavore West because places you can walk or bike to for groceries shape how a west-side neighborhood works day to day.
