By 6:30 on a dark December morning, there's a light on in a glass and brick-red building near the OSU-Cascades campus, and somebody is already pulling espresso. Twelve hours later, a few miles closer to the mountain, a heated hall behind a ski shop is filling with people in base layers. Food trucks line one wall, and a game room is open in the back. Both rooms opened this summer, and neither existed on Century Drive last ski season.
Until this year, the stretch of SW Century Drive between the west side and the roundabouts toward Cascade Lakes Highway was mostly a road you drove through. Breakfast meant a stop somewhere else in town, and après meant the mountain or downtown. In summer 2026, three openings set up both ends of a ski day along the same road. Mt. Bachelor owns one of them. With Opening Day scheduled for Friday, December 4, 2026, conditions permitting, this is the first winter Century Drive gets to run that way.
KTVZ reported on July 16 that Base Camp, the food truck hall and taphouse behind Powder House, had held its soft opening and would open to the public that Saturday. Haven Bagel and Coffee held a grand opening for its second shop on July 31, according to Cascade Business News. Base Camp's official grand opening followed on August 14.
Mt. Bachelor opened Trailhead Lodge that same summer. It's a 70-room hotel and community gathering space that the resort describes as about 10 minutes from downtown Bend and 20 minutes from the slopes.
Put their posted hours side by side and you get a full day.
So from first light to late evening, at least one of the three is open. The coffee stop and the après stop are now on the road you take to the mountain anyway.
Haven has a history on this road. Owners Toni and Elijah Myers opened their first Haven in 2024 at Reed Market Road and 27th Street in Reed South. Before that, they owned Croutons. "We started our restaurant career right here on Century Drive in 2007," Elijah told Cascade Business News. He added that the couple first tested the Haven concept at the NorthWest Crossing farmers market. Toni told the outlet that many customers at the first shop were coming over from the west side and asking when Haven would open on their side of town.
The Century Drive shop serves the same lineup as Reed South. That means handmade organic bagels, breakfast sandwiches, muffins, scones and a full range of hot and cold drinks. Since it opens at 6:30, a bagel sandwich can come along for a first-chair start without a detour.
Trailhead Lodge changes the most about how this road works, because the mountain operator built it. Mt. Bachelor calls it a 6.6-acre basecamp against the Deschutes National Forest and plans it as a year-round hub, according to the resort's blog. "We're not just running a hotel, we're strengthening partnerships and integrating our fellow community members into the process," Erin Bohon, Mt. Bachelor's Director of Resort Services, said in that post. During the renovation, the resort worked with Furnish Hope and Shepherd's House Ministries to collect and reuse the previous tenant's furniture, dishware and other supplies.
Overnight guests get exterior-access rooms with ski and snowboard storage, plus a year-round enclosed communal hot tub. The café and the events, though, are open to anyone driving by. Cascade Business News reported that the Café & Bar serves local beer, wine, coffee and light fare, and that the lodge hosts free events, including live music, fitness classes and après gatherings. Some rooms will be set aside as housing for winter seasonal employees.
Some of the resort's own crew will be living on Century Drive this winter, and the lodge is billing its café as a place for après. Mt. Bachelor's base-area social life now has an outpost within ten minutes of downtown.
Base Camp covers the end of the day, and it's built for weather. The Source's September review describes a 7,000-square-foot building with a 1,000-square-foot second-floor deck and about 5,000 square feet of patio and walkway. It's air conditioned for summer and heated for winter. Inside there's an arcade room. The Source also wrote that its location, "right behind Powder House on Century Drive," means Base Camp "seems destined to become an après-ski gathering place once winter arrives."
The bar has 36 rotating taps alongside cocktails, wine and slushies. In September the Source listed signature cocktails at $12, nonalcoholic cocktails at $7 and wine by the glass at $11. The current truck lineup covers what a cold, hungry group might want:
Base Camp hasn't announced a winter schedule or winter events, so the posted daily 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. hours are the ones to go by for now.
These stops matter more because of what's changing on the mountain this season. Mt. Bachelor's 2026/27 announcements are mostly about reliability and the local calendar, not new terrain.
| Change for 2026/27 | What it means |
|---|---|
| Northwest chairlift modernization | New drive, motor, diesel backup and controls on the existing towers and chairs. A night-drive system circulates the haul rope with the chairs removed to cut ice buildup after storms. The target is the 2026/27 season. |
| Little Pine chairlift | Interior components and operating systems are being modernized, with work expected done by Opening Day. |
| Wood Fuel Energy Facility | Biomass heat for West Village buildings and snowmelt, replacing about 150,000 gallons of propane a year. Ribbon-cutting is planned for November 2026. |
| Nordic Center 50th anniversary | Events and café specials all season. Each alpine passholder gets a complimentary Nordic ticket. |
| New local events | A five-week Friday Mt. Bachelor Cup race league, Lady Laps meetups and terrain-park events. |
Northwest is the work to watch. Mt. Bachelor's September update says the project is still underway and is working toward a storm-ready lift for the 2026/27 season. It doesn't promise the lift will spin on December 4. If a storm shuts the upper mountain, a long breakfast at Haven or an early afternoon at Base Camp fits the day well.
For anyone still deciding on a pass, Mt. Bachelor's season pass page lists an adult Full Season pass at $1,499 and Midweek at $1,149 as of late October 2026. A new Fast Tracks add-on costs $199 for four days of express-lane access on nine lifts. Kids Ski Free and Outplay 365 are no longer on sale. Those current prices are higher than the early-sale rates Mt. Bachelor offered when passes launched on March 24, as the Source reported.
If you ride the bus, Cascades East Transit's Mt. Bachelor winter page still shows last season's service ending April 20, 2026, and no 2026/27 timetable or fares were posted as of late October. The route has run between Hawthorne Station, the Mt. Bachelor Park & Ride, West Village and Sunrise, seven days a week in winter. On the mountain, general parking at West Village, Sunrise and Skyliner is listed as free and first-come, first-served, with a limited number of paid premium spots reserved online.
Mt. Bachelor says it will open earlier than December 4 if snow allows.
At The Nolte Group, we follow small changes like these because they shape everyday life on Bend's west side. If you're curious how Century Drive's new stops fit into a home search, or what being this close to the mountain road means for your own place, we'd be glad to talk it through over coffee at Haven.
